first-council-meetingThis is my first article as a newly elected Councillor and before I start I would like to thank everyone who supported me in the election campaign, it was really fantastic to have your support/assistance/ear during this time. Also to everyone taking the time to vote, it was very humbling, overwhelming and exciting to be elected, thank you all so very much. It was really pleasing to see that South Wairarapa voting turnout was just over 56%.
On the 19th October, we were all sworn in at the first meeting of the Triennium, we each had to take the oath and then afterwards there was morning tea to be shared with family who were there to watch. fundraising-cookbook Wharekaka Auxiliary members’ kitchens have been working overtime the last few months testing recipes for their new cookbook. This is the Auxiiliary’s biggest fundraiser for 23 years and sales of the book will raise money for hospital level care at Wharekaka, allowing residents to remain in the community that has been their home. Additionally, Wharekaka will also be offering palliative care as needed to non-residents. Both these care options will be a huge asset to the Martinborough area. … Continue Reading

dame-melvina-returns In 2013, The Wellington Committee of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation organised a fundraiser at The Cabbage Tree Vineyard. The Foundation, set up in 1991 by Dame Malvina, funds “young performers of talent to reach their potential”. Dame Malvina loved the people, the event and the setting so much that she made a request to come back. This second fundraiser will take place on the last Sunday of November.
It is expensive to enrol in the top music colleges. Fees for outstanding institutions in the UK and the USA can be around $80,000pa which includes modest living expenses only. There are only a limited number of scholarships available. A number of promising young New Zealanders are fortunate to have been recipients of grants from the Foundation. … Continue Reading
