SOUTH WAIRARAPA TRAMPING CLUB often opts for local day walks during the winter months, which fit easily into the shorter hours of daylight. These Saturday walking trips provide manageable outings for all age groups and levels of fitness. Two of our recent day walks have been on the delightful Masterton walkways, commencing and finishing at Henley Lake; and from Ngawi to the stone wall where the landscape never fails to impress. MartinBoroughTownHallCC_V03_Interior-1 South Wairarapa District Council recently discussed the funding structure for the Martinborough Community Centre project at its August meeting. The Council is looking to fund a $3.2 million contribution to the town hall refurbishment and proposed new extension, which will incorporate the important community services such as a Library, Plunket rooms and the Destination Wairarapa i-SITE Visitor Information Centre.

The majority of Council funds for the new development will come from land sales and capitalisation of existing rental income within the Martinborough Ward. At Wednesday’s meeting the Council proposed that the remaining $1 million required to bring the project to completion be funded by a small, targeted rate, after a period of consultation with Martinborough ratepayers. This will ensure the delivery of the project within the projected budget and timeframes. The project is planned for completion in mid 2017. … Continue Reading
