Our Youth Forum had a combined Keorahi rugby team with Greytown in The Carterton Waifest. It was a day filled with music, keorahi and food!

We had a sausage sizzle ran almost entirely by Matt Shackleton, a quick ring around and I managed to get serviettes and tomato sauce donated by Rodger from Providore. David Kershaw donated 6kgs of onions, Woolfies Olive 2nd press olive oil went into the cooking of onions that Janet McAlister and I cut and cooked on Friday afternoon.
Rob McMaster from Pakohe Lime cut and put about 15kgs of prime watercress for the hangi which apparently gave the most amazing flavour. … Continue Reading

It took time for the people of Waihinga/Martinborough to have their own governance. From 1869 the settlement came under the jurisdiction of the Lower Valley Roads Board. The census taken in 1871 covering the Waihinga, Otaraia and Greytown ridings counted a population of just seventy one people.

From September 1872 the area came under the newly formed Featherston Highways Board which a year later was renamed the Featherston Roads Board. This was to remain the governing body for nine years.

John Martin began selling sections north of Waihinga in 1879, however it was not until mid 1882 when he filed his plan for what was to become Martinborough. On some documents the area went by the names of Wharekaka or Warekaka and on others Bairdville or Waihinga Settlement. … Continue Reading

Wairarapa Connecting communities have organised a holiday programme for those last weeks of the summer holidays when the young people’s boredom starts to set in.

Commencing on Monday 12th January the programme to be held at Card Recreation Grounds at Featherston (Johnston Street – opposite the railway station) and goes through to Friday 23rd.

From Monday 12th to Thursday 15th between 9 am and 12 noon there will be a variety of sport to chose from including rippa rugby, cricket, softball, footsall, tennis and athletics.
