Cross Creek Blues

September 16, 2013 October 2013 Comments Off on Cross Creek Blues

August club night commenced with a showcase of Wairarapa Blues Musicians including the return of “The Honkey Tonk Heroes” Eric Manson and John Beckett. These musos are well known to many in the Wairarapa for the classic Jazz and Blues they have delivered with style for over 30 years. They were followed by a line up including KB and the Roosters.
These musicians need no introduction as they are stalwarts of Cross Creek Blues Club, but legend has it Kevin Bannister (KB) toured With Peter Posa back in the day! He showed that he still has what it takes during a recent club night when he and the Roosters provided a fabulous rendition of Posa’s White Rabbit! … Continue Reading

Hospice Wairarapa Wine Auction

There’s no rule that says supporting a great local cause shouldn’t also be fun.   Hospice Wairarapa brings fiesta-style food, top local chefs and wonderful wine together in a riotously colourful setting on 19 October.

“The Hospice’s Charity Wine Auction and Fiesta of Flavour is our major fund-raising activity, and is always a lot of fun for the 200 guests. Competitive natures emerge when the bidding starts!  We call it putting the fun into fundraising,” says Hospice Wairarapa Trustee, Masterton’s Suzie Adamson. … Continue Reading

South Wairarapa Tramping Club news

September 16, 2013 October 2013 Comments Off on South Wairarapa Tramping Club news

The club received an appreciative email from Peter Harvey of Lowry Bay, thanking us for the work on the Mt Frith track:
‘Some friends and I, on Sunday, walked from the Rimutaka hill summit all the way to the Bucks Road car park on the track I know you people have done so much work on—a solid six hours or so. A fabulous day and we were very grateful for the markers and poles. This is a very underrated, and I think unknown, treasure.

We had great views both east and west and the wind stayed away for much of the time. I did note that sections after Finis heading north are getting quite overgrown with gorse and will be difficult to get through in another year or so. I was intrigued to know if it was possible to head north straight down the spur off Frith as it looked quite gentle and bush clad from over on the Finis ridge. In any event, many thanks for making this tramp possible!’ … Continue Reading

Ramblings from the Council Table

September 16, 2013 October 2013 Comments Off on Ramblings from the Council Table

Well another triennium is almost over and it’s the dreaded elections again! I would like to perhaps reflect on the highlights and a disappointment.

To discuss the  negative first, if there is a function of Council that people find frustrating it would have to be seal extensions! The dust nuisance for people with houses close to unsealed roads can be horrendous during the summer months. I sympathise and apologise but unfortunately the solution isn’t straight forward due to NZ Transport Agencies rules and funding. I am not making excuses as we still need to work together, the public need to continue to put submissions to council and Council needs to look for solutions to get satisfactory outcomes. … Continue Reading
