Stephen Allwood.

There are “wow” moments in our lives, and as an enthusiastic individual I have quite a few but walking into Stephen’s studio was certainly one of the “up there” ones. A large canvas entitled “Bellbird’s Bath” on the easel was amazing – up close it is a series of large, free brush strokes, that when viewed from further back becomes this painting that you can feel the energy of the bird shaking its wet feathers. For a wannabe artist like myself I could only look and feel that my attempts look like “finger painting in kindy” beside a real artist. … Continue Reading

How would you like a ‘Quite interesting’ book or a ‘Book to tickle your fancy’.  Well, you can find one quite easily in The Kabin on the shelves labeled; ‘ Quite interesting Books and Books to tickle your fancy’ – ask if you can’t find them.  But as we only have 4 bookshelves it won’t be too difficult!

All the books are non-fiction but quirky and different – well I think so anyway!  From the history of Ambergris, the art of Burlesque, art from vegetables, you name it and we probably have it.   … Continue Reading

The new Featherston County Council offices, 1904

The occasion was marked by two functions, a plaque unveiling and a celebratory ball. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the latter but I hear it was a great night. A big ‘thank you’ to the organisers of both events.

The plaque unveiling and associated function was heaps of fun. Excellent entertainment was provided by Martinborough School and members of Madcaps.  … Continue Reading

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1. At least that was the range of excuses for some …
