Matariki cluster

Te Papa has provided this photo of the Matariki Star Cluster. It can be seen rising in the north east around the winter solstice. In the summer it can be seen to the left of Orion throughout the summer. It’s a cluster of young hot blue stars, 9 can be seen with the naked eye and there are approx. 500 in the cluster.

Martinborough Music Festival 23-25 September, Martinborough Town Hall

“No-one really understands what being a concert pianist is like except another concert pianist. So, playing a duo or duet is the thing I love to do most in the world” Diedre Irons.

Diedre is speaking of her love for playing Piano Duos and Duets. She will be opening the Martinborough Music Festival (MMF) this year performing a Piano Duo and Duets with Michael Houstoun.

Piano Duo is generally described as 4 hands, two pianos and Piano Duets as 4 hands, one piano. The two grand pianos Diedre and Michael will play are the MMF Trust Schimmel and a Yamaha on loan to the MMF by local artist and pianist, Stephen Allwood. … Continue Reading

It is hard to believe that it is just over 2 years since the passing of Thelma Feist, she was a real stalwart of First Church and very generously gave to a number of organisations in Martinborough and the wider community , one of which was to the Waihenga Trust.  

It is lovely to see the new seat that has been organised and purchased by the Waihenga Trust in remembrance of Thelma. It is just by the Centre and faces out over the playground with a plaque recognising Thelma, this is a lovely sunny spot to sit and read or watch the children enjoying the playground. … Continue Reading
