Once upon a time, we got the news from daily newspapers and the evening news on TV. If we wanted to know something specific, we consulted an encyclopaedia or we visited the library.

Libraries still dispense information. More importantly, we are careful to provide information that is correct, accurate and pertinent to your query. If we are at all unsure about the reliability of the information, we will say so.

The same cannot be said for information found on the Internet. Anyone can post anything online. If it is ‘liked’ and shared often enough to gain virtual traction, that may be all that is needed for it to be believed – whether it is actually true or not.  … Continue Reading

From the CEO

July 6, 2022 July 2022 Comments Off on From the CEO

This month nominations will open for those interested in becoming a Councillor or Community Board member in our district. Campaign rules dictate that columns such as this one, which is usually written by the Mayor, must stop, so it falls to me to pick up the baton and tell you a little of what has been going on in Council in the last month.

FIRE BRIGADE REPORT

July 6, 2022 July 2022 Comments Off on FIRE BRIGADE REPORT

Well winter arrived, the Brigade recently attended an electrical fire that we were able to quickly extinguish saving the property, with assistance from our adjoining Featherston, Greytown and Carterton Brigades.

As winter bites the risk of fire increases, if you smell smoke or your smoke alarms sound, evacuate and call 111 Immediately, we are happy to come anytime. Please be careful of disposing of ashes from your fire, always put the in a metal container placed on concrete or grass away from buildings or firewood piles to cool for a couple of days.

We continue our very steady Medical Responses, and our team of First Responders are here to help, always call Ambulance in the first instance, and we are happy for you to suggest the First Response Unit be sent as well anywhere in the South Wairarapa. … Continue Reading
