Novel Hospice fundraiser

July 6, 2022 July 2022 Comments Off on Novel Hospice fundraiser

This July Miss Maude Fine Fabrics and Yarn have come up with a novel way of raising money for Hospice Wairarapa. They are inviting people to come and help them to knit a scarf! For every centimeter knitted they will donate $5 to Hospice.

But they need YOUR help to knit the scarf, so pop along to the store, take a seat and knit a line. You’ll even be rewarded with a delicious locally baked Gingerbread cookie! It will be taking place for the whole of July so there is plenty of time to come sit, have a chat and relax into some knitting. It doesn’t matter what your skill level is – from beginners to advanced knitters anyone is welcome to come and try.

Miss Maude is also supporting a charity fabric sale called Fabric a Brac which is taking place on 2 July with all proceeds going to Hospice Wairarapa. If you love fabric this will be taking place at the Greytown Town Centre, 89 Main Street. There will be a wide variety of vintage and modern fabrics, patterns and other sewing notions for sale and plenty of treasures to be found!

   Levansa Trio Returns

July 6, 2022 July 2022 Comments Off on    Levansa Trio Returns

The Levansa Trio will be returning to Greytown on July 23 after a long absence. Its members – Andrew Beer, violin, Lev Sivkov, cello and Sarah Watkins, piano – first came together as an ensemble in 2019, while Lev was visiting from Switzerland to play solo concerts. It was clear from the beginning that this international collaboration between a Canadian, a Russian and a Kiwi had great potential, and that the three musicians felt a spontaneous affinity as chamber music partners.  … Continue Reading

How Well Do We Know People in our Community?

Lisa Marie Ireland is a true Martinborough girl, born and bred in the Wairarapa, going to Martinborough School and then on to Kuranui College.

“I loved school. I got involved in every sporting activity I could. I played rugby, tennis, netball, and hockey and was always supported by my Mum and Dad. When I was at secondary school, I began playing golf as well, through a physical education elective. Bill Jones at the Martinborough Golf Club was our coach, and he was passionate about the game. Every week he would coach the juniors. There were about 5 or 6 of us. I still play when I can.

When the time came for me to leave school, I had no idea what I wanted to do. So many of the people I knew went to university but then ended up changing their subjects, or even then not knowing what to do. So, I decided to try a few professions out. My Mum had always worked in the hospitality industry, so I worked firstly for Bruce Congleton at the Cheese Shop, and then at Medici for 6 years, weekdays and weekends.  … Continue Reading

Martinborough Business Assn.

July 6, 2022 July 2022 Comments Off on Martinborough Business Assn.

What had been a trying harvest season for the vineyards followed suit for the recent harvest of olives here in Martinborough with the growers facing similar weather challenges.

The Business Association proudly has several of the local Olive growers as members and our Chair Alllan Hogg himself has a 580 tree grove to tend when he isn’t driving the MBA bus.

But this golden drop that is gaining world class status is another reason Martinborough is a foodie destination. Look at the line up of bottles in any number of our local shops and you see shiney labels adorning the bottles in recognition of their quality.  We know the benefits of olive oil in our diet, so now we have a second reason to be following the mediterranean diet here in Martinborough! … Continue Reading

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1.
