MARTINBOROUGH GOLF REPORT

May 10, 2021 May 2021, Sports Comments Off on MARTINBOROUGH GOLF REPORT

It is amazing how quickly the course changes over a matter of days – fairways have gone from brown to green and there is definitely not as much run as there was last month.  The greens were cored a couple of weeks ago and are coming back well.

Tuesdays have seen good numbers turning up to play Grumpies with some very impressive scores coming in.  Winners over the last few weeks have been Jack Allen, Rick Hargreaves and Paul Riddiford.  Twos have gone to Nick Allen, Bill Jones, Paul Riddiford (2), Barry Johnson, Bill Jago and Brian Russo. … Continue Reading

Also thanks to South Wairarapa District Council for their support.

Thank you also to the numerous volunteers that assisted on the day, and of course to the nine teams that entered.

The winning team was the Wharfies Dreamers (Capital Masters One), who after 3 years of trying, finally won the 2020 edition, going unbeaten on 22 points. Second place went to Wairarapa United (19), and third place to Waikanae (16). It was an extremely competitive tournament with the 8th placed team (Martinborough) drawing 1-1 with the 2nd placed team!

In the Junior Division, junior Jackson Gray was playing Trevor Petersen in a closely fought match with Jackson taking the honours.  Debbie Donaldson beat Sandra Petersen in the Ladies Silver division on the 32nd hole, Emily Loughnan beat Jane Terpstra also on the 32nd hole and Julie Weber beat Nicola Warren on the 28th hole.  Congratulations to all our champions.

Unfortunately over the last few weeks the weather has not been kind to the Grumpies but winners have been Nick Allen and Rob McCreary.  Two’s have gone to Nick Allen, Malcolm Wood, Shayne Hammond and Malcolm Bridge. … Continue Reading

Another very busy month at the Golf Club which began with the Mens 54/36 Hole Open.  The players had to endure some very windy conditions on the Saturday but fortunately the weather was a lot kinder on the Sunday.  Winners of the 54 Hole Division were:  Best Gross Owen Lloyd, 2nd Troy Shaw, 3rd Paul Hartley, Best Nett Nick Morison, 2nd Richard Mills, 3rd Jason Shaw.  Winners of the 36 Hole Division were:  Best Gross Peter Spearman-Burn, 2nd Thomas Spearman-Burn, 3rd Malcolm Wood, Best Nett Peter Stevens, 2nd Dayle Scrimshaw, 3rd Terry Blacktop.

The following weekend we hosted the Baarbraa Trophy which is played annually against Eketahuna.  A Stableford round was played and judging by the results it looked as if Martinborough would be taking the Trophy back but unfortunately it was not meant to be as the average scores were Martinborough 33.2381 and Eketahuna 34.5333.  Maybe next year. … Continue Reading
