Competitors Aimee Clouston and Annabelle De Groot

Sunday the 8th April saw 40 enthusiastic junior squash players descend on Martinborough Squash Club to play the Martinborough leg of the Under 900 series. The players came from Wellington in the South to Manawatu and Pahiatua in the North with ages ranging from 8 to 17. We witnessed some impressive performances including from our 15 Martinborough club members.

The Under 900 series is a series of tournament that run through the autumn and winter months and reward participation as well as match results. A final winner is announced at the last leg of the tournaments held in July.

The calibre of squash was fantastic for such an early stage of the season.  … Continue Reading

MARTINBOROUGH GOLF REPORT

May 23, 2018 May 2018, Sports Comments Off on MARTINBOROUGH GOLF REPORT

The Weather hasn’t been to kind to our  Womens Captain in the month of April, Elaine has rescheduled more fixtures than the rest of us had to for the entire year due to the inclement weather on a Wednesday. Finally though mid month the sun shone  and there was very little space in the carpark by 9am. Whats more the Bar was open, a rarity on a Wednesday, thanks to the efforts of Marie Scrimshaw. Marie joins the Exclusive One Club  with a superb Hole in One on the 6th Hole, and naturally picked up the All Teed Up NTP on that hole.

The Weeks competition was  HPMC Stableford and was  won by Jenny Wilkie.  In second place was Ju Allen on a countback from Player of the Day Marie Scrimshaw. Congrats to you for holding it together to complete your round.  Elaine Sutherland got the only two of the day.  Cafe Medici  NTP No 8 was won by Elaine Howe.

There were twenty two entered into the Tuesday Grumpies. The competition was Stableford with 1st place going to Andrew Lawler on 38 pts. 2nd Adrian Blackett 37 pts.  Not sure what happened to the four who misplaced their cards, guessing they may have had a spot of bother. … Continue Reading

November came and went pretty much without rain, finally the Course has dried out and that little dimpled ball is back running down the fairway, bringing a cheer to many who thought that the rain might never stop.

The highlight of the month was the Women winning the Teams Stableford Competition and the Silverware at the Wellington Womens Golf Champion of Champions held at home. Congratulations to Carol Parkinson joint winner of the Bronze Championships and to her team mates Karen Shaw and Pip Kirk for their valuable input into playing well and amassing  stableford points to win the impressive trophy for 2017.Its been a long drinks break, the last winning trio Sherry Weatherstone, Diana Donald and Sue Wright won at Carterton back at the beginning of this century.

Unfortunately the Men had no chance of winning theirs at Masterton as the team was short of a player in the Intermediates.

The Nine hole Group  have been busy with recruiting players and their bring a friend day has three new to golf players keen and their Open day was a huge success. Co- Captains Jaquee Reid and Billie Holmes were stoked to have  eighty five in the field after three pulled out at the last minute.
Thirteen Clubs were represented: Masterton, Carterton, Manor Park, Marton, Otaki, Paraparaumu Beach, Pauatahanui, Manawatu, Feilding,  Waikanae, Shandon and Kapiti and a number of our own gals from Martinborough. … Continue Reading

Martinborough Netball Club

December 19, 2017 December 2017, Sports Comments Off on Martinborough Netball Club

Indeed while this year is almost over and this article slightly late, just to let you know what the season has been like for the Martinborough Netball Club.

The Netball Premier Team moved up a grade this netball season from previous years having played in the Premier 2 grade. We only had one team enter into the Netball Wairarapa Competition 2017 playing in the Premier Reserve Grade. New players, new team, new combinations and new uniforms.

It had been and up and down season for the Netball Team this year playing in the earlier rounds of the Premier Reserve Grade but some great skills on display on court, but always room for improvement in any sporting code. Mix of wins and games lost through the rounds, but the team soldiered on. At the business end of the competition the team made the finals again this year for the fourth time in a row (having won 3 in Premier 2 grade) although not the results we wanted this year, but a great way to finish the season making finals and hopefully we can go further next year. … Continue Reading

Golf pro-am success _ without clubhouse

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1. At least that was the range of excuses for some …
