Walking is a man’s best medicine. (Hippocrates)

SOUTH WAIRARAPA TRAMPING CLUB
While crossing a busy intersection in Christchurch last week I spotted a banner sporting the message: WALK2freeTHE.MIND. This surely captures in a catch-phrase a credible philosophy.

Throughout the decades numerous walking quotes have been recorded, many of which portray the physical and mental benefits of a brisk or recreational walk in a pleasant environment. Here are some examples:
Walking is a man’s best medicine. [Hippocrates]
Walking: the most ancient exercise and still the best modern exercise. [Carrie Latet]
I have two doctors, my left leg and my right. [G M Trevelyan]
A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world. [Paul Dudley White]
The best remedy for a short temper is a long walk. [Jacqueline Schiff]
If you want to know if your brain is flabby, feel your legs. [Bruce Barton]
SO… bin your excuses and start walking this week to reap the benefits of pleasure and the sense of good health and wellbeing that is associated directly with walking. Find someone to walk with or enquire about linking up with a local walking group. Better still, tap into your local South Wairarapa Tramping Club. … Continue Reading

The season is over for the Premier and Senior Reserve teams, and what a season it was! Our Premier team made it to the Tui Cup Final, our first final in 24 year years…the last time we won was 26 years ago! Unfortunately it was not to be the fairy tale ending we would have liked, losing 12-25 to Gladstone, however we are extremely proud of our team and look forward to bringing the trophy back to Martinborough in 2018! … Continue Reading

There is one further mini tournament which will take place at the Clareville turf on the 23 and 24 September followed by the week long tournament in Auckland from the 9-14 October.
The boys would like to thank all those that have purchased raffle tickets from them and South Wairarapa sponsors: Holmes Construction, Mike Pero Real Estate, P J Warren Earthmoving, Valley Plumbing, Martinborough Transport, South Wairarapa Vet Services and South Wairarapa Rotary. … Continue Reading

MARTINBOROUGH GOLF

Two down and one to go, we are on the home straight with the season of Winter and for the first time in many years the dams and tanks are fill and the water tables have well and truly reached above the ground. you guessed, we’re ready for Spring!

The Course has been under going some serious aeration and top dressing, the upside is the grass will grow, the weeds will be scarce and we should see a marked improvement on the fairways in the next few months. There has been the odd tree come down during the big gales however we have been very fortunate that damage has been mostly superficial.

The Lions tour boosted the coffers, a good number of freedom supporters found their way to the Course and didn’t mind a bit that the greens were being cored the week they arrived and one group were especially grateful to the Wednesday gals who lent them their Clubs, balls etc. … Continue Reading
