Martinborough Golf Club Champions Found for 2016

November 18, 2016 November 2016, Sports Comments Off on Martinborough Golf Club Champions Found for 2016

golf-club-champions-aCongratulations to all the Martinborough Golf Club Champions for 2016. A number of the matches went the full distance and all were played in very good spirits. It was great to see the largest number of entries in the Women’s divisions in a number of years. Special mention must go to Pip Kirk, who tried to defend her title in the final of the Women’s Silver Championship against multi-time champion Sherry Weatherstone the day before her first baby was due. Baby Hunter didn’t arrive until a week later, but it certainly made for an exciting finals day! … Continue Reading

Martinborough Junior Hockey Club

September 21, 2016 September 2016, Sports Comments Off on Martinborough Junior Hockey Club

Marty-Magic-Hockey-Team-The hockey season is drawing to a close with 6-aside games completed and only the business end of the 11-aside games left to play. Finals day is 17 September with our club prize-giving and break-up the following week.

Our Marty Magic team made it to the Gold B Grade 6-aside final on 27 August. They played St Pats Shamrocks and very narrowly lost 2-1 after leading 1-0 at halftime. The team played really well, passing nicely and with some great tackling in defence.

Their best game of the season was a 2-0 win over Kahutara in the semi-final the week before. It was a solid team effort and everyone performed to the best of their abilities. With five out of the nine players new to hockey this year, the team has come a long way in one season. Their enthusiasm for the game has always been great, and now with some skills and a years’ experience they will be ready for 11 aside next year! Well done to all of the players in the team and to their coach, Graeme Scarr. … Continue Reading

Martinborough junior soccer

September 21, 2016 September 2016, Sports Comments Off on Martinborough junior soccer

Junior-soccer With a record nine Martinborough teams entered in this year’s Capital Football Wairarapa Junior competition, it’s been a busy and fun year for our young footballers.

Apart from a couple of weather-related cancellations, we’ve had a fantastic season of football and all our players (and coaches) have learned a lot! We would like to thank all of our team coaches and managers for dedicating so much time and energy to their teams, without this help, the club could not continue. Our prizegiving will be held on Sunday September 18th at 3pm, with photos, awards and a shared afternoon tea.

Planning for our next season is already underway, and we are hoping to further develop the club with the introduction of a senior mens’ team. Paul Brandon will be taking over the running of the club and we are all very excited to see this new momentum kick in and the club keep growing. Paul has great football contacts locally and over the hill so look out for further football development opportunities over the summer off-season!

Golf pro-am success _ without clubhouse

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1. At least that was the range of excuses for some …
