Golf Club News

The golf season has started off well this year. The prolonged hot, dry weather has allowed for a lot of the notorious golfing “summer run” and as a result has seen many members handicaps tumble. The recent rain has definitely greened up the course, and with coring having just been completed the course should start to play more traditionally. We welcome new green keeper, Richard Whisker, who has previous experience working on PGA tour courses and course development in Nigeria.

The Club has hosted a number of significant events in the last couple of months. Firstly, in March, the Wellington District Women’s 36 Hole Stroke Play Championship was held at Martinborough. Women’s Golf in the Wellington region has a good future if watching these teenagers is anything to go by. Julianne Alvarez, an 18 yr old from Manor Park playing off a +3, won the Miss M Young Trophy with a Gross 142, one over in the morning round and 5 under in the afternoon. … Continue Reading

Rugby News

The Senior rugby season has kicked off with much enthusiasm amongst the players and supporters alike. We are fielding the one team this year, our Senior As with James Bruce at the helm. We have a lot of new young players and after a couple of early losses they are starting to hit their strides, winning on Saturday against Eketahuna, the competition winners from 2014. Rugby Club News

The rugby season is fast approaching, boots have been dug out from the back of cupboards, rugby balls pumped up, and the talk is now about rugby over cricket…

Our JAB registration was held recently, with over 30 new registrations our club is looking really strong right through the age groups.
Each player that registered this year received a t-shirt that was specially designed by Dustys & Lulu, you will no doubt be seeing plenty of these around town. It is never too late to register, contact Tracey Tayles 0274635387 or pop into the Martinborough School Office and grab a form. The JAB season starts on the 9 May.

Good numbers have been turning out for the Senior trainings on Tuesday and Thursdays. A pre season game was held against Waikanae, and with a training run at Gladstone, they will be rearing to go when their season starts on the 11 April.

A huge thank you goes to Eastern & Central Community Trust who have granted us $5800 to replace the flooring in the kitchen and bar area. This has meant that things have been all go to get everything up and running before the start of the season. Tennis Holiday Programme

The Tennis Holiday Programme will be held at the Martinborough Tennis Courts on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th April. The programme will be held in three groups.

From 9 – 11am Novice
The younger age group 6-10 years with some grasshopper experience.

From 11.15 – 1.15 Advanced level
For players with match experience and have played to Advance Grade

1.30 – 3.30pm Competition Level
For players with match play experience and who have played Championship Grade of Regional Level 2, 3 or 4 competitions ( Primary or Secondary School).
